Murder Manor: Whodunit ("the game") is a murder-mystery board game you play inside Discord. It is run by the Murder Manor team ("we", "us"). This page explains what information the game uses, why, who can see it and how long we keep it. The game uses very little, so this is short.
What we collect
- From Discord, when you open the game: your Discord user ID, your display name (or username) and your avatar. We only ask Discord for the "identify" permission. That does not include your email address, messages, friends list or servers.
- What you do in the game: the rooms you join, room names you type, your seat, and your moves: dice rolls, suggestions, accusations and the cards you show. The game needs these to run.
- Technical information: like any website, our hosting provider Cloudflare receives your IP address and basic details of each request (such as your browser type) when the game loads. Short-lived request logs help us fix problems.
- A code instead of your ID: the game keeps a code made from your Discord ID with a secret key, only to count returning players and how many Discord servers the game is played in. It never stores your name or ID this way: the days you played are deleted after 120 days, and the code itself 400 days after your last visit.
We do not collect your voice, chat messages or payment details. The game has no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To show your name and picture to the other players in your room, on your suspect card and on the board.
- To run games: deal the cards, check moves, keep each player's cards secret, and list public rooms.
- To keep the game working and fair, for example fixing bugs and limiting how many public rooms one person can list.
- To see how the game is doing, we keep anonymous totals for each hour: how many times the game was opened, rooms created, quick matches, games started and finished, how long games last, how many turns, suggestions and accusations there were, how many games were solved or won by a bot, and the most players online at once. These totals contain no Discord IDs, names, room names or anything else that could be linked to you.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except as described on this page.
Who can see it
- Players in your room see your Discord name and avatar and what you do in the game. Your cards are only ever sent to you, and a card you show is only seen by the player you show it to.
- Public rooms are listed for anyone using the game, with the room's name and how many players it has. The host's Discord user ID is stored with the listing, but not shown, so we can limit public rooms per person.
- Our service providers: Cloudflare (hosting and storage) and Discord (sign-in and avatars). They only process this information to provide their services to us.
How long we keep it
- Rooms, including their names, seats and games, delete themselves automatically after 6 hours with nobody connected.
- A public room's listing is removed when the room goes private or empties, or after 30 minutes without an update.
- Avatars are cached by Cloudflare for up to one day.
- The sign-in token from Discord is used to confirm who you are and is not stored by our server.
- Request logs are kept by Cloudflare for a few days.
- The anonymous totals are kept for as long as the game runs.
On your device
The game saves a few things in your own browser: your sound and music settings, whether the notepad is pinned, your notepad marks, and the last room you were in. They stay on your device. Clearing the site's data removes them.
Children
You must meet Discord's minimum age to use Discord and this game (13 in most countries). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Your choices and rights
You can stop playing at any time; your rooms and games delete themselves after 6 hours. To ask what we hold about you, to have it deleted sooner, or to use any privacy rights you have where you live, contact us as shown below. You can also remove the game's access to your Discord account in Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will announce important changes in our Discord server.
